Giant left main coronary artery aneurysm in a young adult female with suspected incomplete Kawasaki disease: a case report

Kawasaki disease is a systemic vasculitis occurring predominantly in children. Giant coronary artery aneurysm involving the left main coronary artery is a rare long-term complication of this disease. The article describes a case of a 35-year-old previously healthy woman presenting with one month of chest pain during physical exertion. Coronary angiography confirmed a giant aneurysm with a mean diameter of 12.78 mm along with typical aneurysmal changes in other coronary arteries. Laboratory tests excluded other vasculitides and atherosclerosis. Based on characteristic coronary findings and exclusion of alternative diagnoses, a diagnosis of chronic sequelae from unrecognized incomplete childhood Kawasaki disease was established. The patient received long-term antithrombotic therapy and underwent angioplasty. No major adverse cardiovascular events occurred during six-month follow-up.
