The World Health Organization (WHO) released updated guidelines in July. These guidelines concern visceral leishmaniasis and post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL). In them, WHO recommends shorter and safer treatment options. These new recommendations are intended for the regions of East Africa and South-East Asia. The aim is to improve access to more effective and less risky therapy for patients suffering from these diseases.
