Fetal growth trajectory: normal size does not rule out risk

A study of 5,319 pregnancies found that a decline in growth of at least 50 centiles in the second half of pregnancy was associated with a fourfold increased risk of perinatal mortality. When both reduced growth and small size were present, the risk increased to 7.71-fold. A fetus may appear normally sized but still be at risk.
