Operace i porody bez živých pacientů. Simulační centra mění výuku budoucích lékařů

Over the past five years, a network of simulation centers has been established at Czech medical faculties, fundamentally changing the way medicine is taught. The largest of these is the Brno SIMU center with an area of eight thousand square meters spread over five floors, containing operating rooms, intensive care units, a delivery room, and over one thousand simulators. The construction and equipment cost more than one billion crowns, mostly covered by European grants. Students learn on technically advanced models that mimic the human body and its failures, allowing them to practice all scenarios without risk to real patients. An important part of the training is debriefing – a review of camera recordings where students learn not only technical skills but also patient communication and teamwork. According to the deans of medical faculties, this represents one of the greatest changes in medical education in recent decades. All medical faculties in the Czech Republic now have simulation centers and their benefits are clearly positive.
