A study tracked the effects of marijuana on cardiovascular health and sleep in 16,965 wearable device users over 5.2 million person-days. Participants reported marijuana use on a median of 25.1% of logged days. Marijuana use was associated with lower resting heart rate and reduced heart rate variability. Sleep duration increased by 7.6 minutes but was more fragmented with more disturbances and greater wake time. Over 72 weeks of monitoring, the probability of daily marijuana use declined by 11.1%. The findings indicate that marijuana use is accompanied by altered nocturnal autonomic nervous system function and longer but disrupted sleep.
