Human Papillomavirus Condylomas of Extragenital Site in Immunocompetent Man, New York, USA, 2025

The article describes a case of condylomas caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6 and 11 on the neck of an immunocompetent heterosexual man in his 40s without concurrent genital lesions. The patient sought treatment for a growth on the right side of his neck that had been present for one year and progressively increased in size. Physical examination revealed 6 clustered papules on the lateral neck. After initial cryotherapy treatment, recurrence occurred 11 months later. Biopsy confirmed HPV types 6 and 11 by in situ hybridization. Screening tests for sexually transmitted infections and HIV were negative, and blood count and metabolic panel were within normal limits. This case challenges the traditional understanding of HPV types 6 and 11 tropism to mucosal skin, as extragenital manifestations in immunocompetent adults without genital involvement are rare.
