The study examined the occurrence of Post Mastectomy Pain Syndrome (PMPS) in 100 women aged 18 to 85 years undergoing breast removal surgery. The primary objective was to measure pain intensity using the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) three months after surgery. In the non-White group, mean pain intensity was higher (0.99 versus 0.60), but after adjusting for other factors, the difference was not statistically significant. Post Mastectomy Pain Syndrome occurred in 51.5% of non-White women and 35.1% of White women, with this difference also not being statistically significant. Pain intensity did not significantly differ by income, education, insurance type, or marital status. The study concluded that there were no statistically significant differences in pain between groups, suggesting the need for further research on larger samples.
