A large study showed that cardiovascular benefits of GLP-1 based medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound can disappear surprisingly quickly after treatment stops. Patients who discontinued these medications had a 22 percent higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and death after two years compared with patients who continued treatment. The research indicates that the cardiovascular benefits of these drugs are not permanent and depend on continued use. These findings have important implications for long-term treatment strategies in patients using these medications.
