Ratio of extracellular water and body cell mass is associated with coronary artery calcification in peritoneal dialysis patients

The study examined the relationship between the ratio of extracellular water to body cell mass (ECW/BCM) and coronary artery calcification (CAC) in peritoneal dialysis patients. A retrospective analysis included 197 patients from January 2022 to December 2024. Coronary artery calcification was present in 53.81% of patients. Patients with a higher ECW/BCM ratio had a higher prevalence of CAC. Multivariate logistic regression confirmed that ECW/BCM is an independent risk factor for CAC, with each 0.1 increase in the ratio increasing the risk by 1.35 times. Adding ECW/BCM to conventional factors improved the predictive value to an AUC of 0.869. The results suggest that ECW/BCM is independently associated with the presence of CAC in early stages of peritoneal dialysis.
