The study investigated the genetic relationship between dry eye disease (DED) and multisite chronic pain (MCP) using genomic data analysis. Researchers found a significant genetic correlation between these two conditions and identified three shared genetic risk variants (rs13107325, rs7105462, rs7959961). The analysis revealed that genetic variants are particularly enriched in brain regions, notably the anterior cingulate cortex and cerebellar hemispheres. Using advanced methods, 21 shared functional genes and 11 functional elements associated with both conditions were identified. The results suggest that DED and MCP share a common genetic basis, which may help in developing new therapeutic approaches.
