A modified minimally invasive technique for pelvic organ prolapse: transvaginal extraperitoneal single-port lateral suspension

The study evaluated an improved transvaginal extraperitoneal single-port lateral suspension procedure for treating anterior compartment prolapse and paravaginal defects. The research included 43 patients, with 12 patients in the improved technique group and 31 patients in the control group with traditional technique. In the improved technique group, two procedures were unsuccessful due to inadvertent peritoneal puncture, which was repaired using transvaginal endoscopic surgery. No serious complications such as vascular injury or hemorrhage were recorded in either group. Both groups showed significant improvement in POP-Q, PFDI-20, and PFIQ-7 scores after surgery. The modified procedure appears to be safe and effective, however, its efficacy requires further validation in larger prospective studies.
