Safety of cannabidiol isolated from Cannabis sativa L. as a novel food pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283

The European Commission requested an opinion from the EFSA Panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens (NDA) regarding the safety of cannabidiol (CBD). This CBD is isolated from the Cannabis sativa L. plant and is being assessed as a novel food under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. The novel food in question contains a minimum of 98% w/w cannabidiol. The production process involves ethanol extraction, followed by winterisation, filtration, decarboxylation, and crystallisation. The product is intended for use as an ingredient in various food supplements. The maximum recommended daily intake of this cannabidiol is set at 60 mg.
