Hospitals and general practices nationwide are requesting patients to "describe their experience in their own words." This request comes amidst a rise in overly complex complaints generated by artificial intelligence. New guidance for GPs acknowledges that while AI tools like ChatGPT can help patients organize their thoughts, they can also "make it harder for practices to understand what actually happened." The issue arises because AI tools may provide incorrect information, add untrue details, include irrelevant laws or rights, use overly formal language, or make complaints unnecessarily long. The guidance, developed by Gloucestershire Local Medical Committee and shared nationally, states that patients do not need to use legal terminology or quote laws/NHS rules for their complaint to be taken seriously. Similar advice has also been issued to hospital patients.
