The VALUE study included 15,313 patients and examined how combined patient characteristics relate to the success of blood pressure treatment. The research team created composite patient profiles by combining four factors: age, severity of hypertension, comorbidities, and previous treatment status. Results showed that blood pressure control rates differed significantly between patient profiles, regardless of treatment type. Composite profiles predicted blood pressure control success more accurately than any single factor. Profiles were also associated with the incidence of cardiovascular events. However, adverse effects were not related to individual profiles. The researchers concluded that composite patient profiles can more accurately predict response to antihypertensive treatment than single factors.
