Rammya Mathew: India can teach us about healthcare—but what exactly?

Penny Dash, chair of NHS England, stated that Britain should learn from India how to provide outstanding healthcare at a fraction of the cost. The British NHS can indeed learn from the significant progress made by India's healthcare system. India has successfully established highly standardised processes and embraced advanced technologies on a large scale. These improvements enable the delivery of specific healthcare services quickly and at dramatically lower unit costs. For the country's growing middle class, the private healthcare sector has increasingly become the default choice. This private sector offers patients access to sophisticated medical technology and highly qualified clinicians. However, serious financial challenges remain, as families sometimes have to resort to crowdfunding to afford complex surgeries or critical care.
