Cut back on “short termism” and regulation to help save {pound}460 per person a year, report says

A report by the Health Foundation thinktank warns that short-term planning and excessive regulation are hindering NHS productivity in England. According to the 88-page report, better use of technology and staff could save the NHS £33 billion annually by 2040, equivalent to approximately £460 per person per year. By 2050-51, this figure would increase to £83 billion per year, or £1,130 per person. Improving NHS productivity could save over 20,000 patient lives annually and enable people to spend up to 4.5 additional years in good health. The report suggests that reduced diagnostic times for conditions such as cancer could contribute to reducing mortality rates.
