Trastuzumab plus nivolumab with gemcitabine and cisplatin as first-line therapy for HER2-positive unresectable biliary tract cancer: a phase 1b/2 trial

A phase 1b/2 trial investigated the treatment of patients with biliary tract cancer using a combination of trastuzumab, which targets the HER2 receptor, together with nivolumab, gemcitabine, and cisplatin as first-line therapy. This combination was administered to patients with HER2-positive unresectable biliary tract cancer. The study results showed encouraging clinical response rates to the treatment. HER2 expression was associated with clinical benefit for patients. The study was published in Nature Medicine in September 2026. The results suggest that this combined treatment approach may be an effective strategy for patients with this type of cancer.
