Autumn and winter periods are associated with increased incidence of acute respiratory infections, which can have severe progression in vulnerable populations. Influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, pneumococcal infections, and COVID-19 pose significant risks, particularly for elderly people and those with chronic diseases. Respiratory infections spread through the air via droplets and small particles from breathing, speaking, coughing, or sneezing, as well as indirectly through contaminated hands and surfaces. The Ministry of Health issues these recommendations to provide healthcare and social service facilities with practical preventive measures to reduce transmission risk and protect vulnerable persons. Key measures include providing information about vaccination against influenza, RSV, and pneumococcal infections, staying home when experiencing respiratory symptoms, and maintaining barrier nursing protocols. During periods of increased incidence, use of respirators of at least FFP2 class is recommended, along with monitoring the health status of contact persons and considering shortened and limited visits.
