Suicide Mortality After Launch of the 988 Lifeline

The study examined the effectiveness of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in preventing suicide deaths. Researchers compared states with high and low utilization of this service. The results suggest that the 988 Lifeline was successful in reducing suicide deaths. Analysis of data from the period before the 988 Lifeline launch showed that daily increases in call volume were associated with daily decreases in suicide deaths. The precision of the results could be improved by accounting for differences between individual states in 988 Lifeline implementation and other relevant state-level factors.
