Suicide Mortality After Launch of the 988 Lifeline—Reply

This reply addresses comments on a study regarding suicide mortality. The study found a decrease in suicide mortality among adolescents and young adults. This decline occurred after the national launch of the 988 Lifeline. The largest declines were observed in states where the uptake of the 988 Lifeline increased the most. These findings withstood prespecified falsification testing. Falsification testing involved checking whether the same decline appeared in outcomes or periods that the 988 Lifeline could not have affected. Such an appearance would have indicated a spurious result.
