Total Intravenous vs Volatile Inhalational Anesthesia for Major Noncardiac Surgery

This randomized clinical trial focuses on comparing two types of general anesthesia during major noncardiac surgeries. Specifically, it evaluates the impact of total intravenous anesthesia compared to volatile inhalational anesthesia. The study population consists of older adult patients who underwent major surgical procedures outside of cardiac surgery. The main objective of the trial is to assess the effect of total intravenous anesthesia on postoperative patient recovery. The monitored outcome is the number of days that patients remained alive and stayed at home. This key metric is evaluated precisely within a 30-day period following the surgical procedure.
