Peripheral immunoinflammatory markers and clinical correlations in Parkinson's disease patients carrying LRRK2 G2385R and R1628P variants

A study examined peripheral immunoinflammatory markers in blood samples from 240 participants including Parkinson's disease patients with various LRRK2 genetic variants and healthy controls. Six inflammatory markers were measured: IL-6, TNF-α, CCL2, CX3CL1, CCL5, and VCAM-1. Results showed that patients with the G2385R variant had lower levels of four markers (TNF-α, CCL2, CX3CL1, and CCL5) compared to patients without genetic variants and controls. Patients with the R1628P variant had lower levels of four markers (IL-6, TNF-α, CCL2, and CCL5). Individual inflammatory markers showed different relationships with motor symptoms and disability depending on genetic type. Researchers concluded that immunoinflammatory profiles differ by genotype and have implications for future studies with immunomodulatory treatments.
