We still do not know the answers to fundamental questions about menopause

Menopause care is rapidly changing, with women more openly discussing their symptoms and clinicians becoming more willing to treat them. Attitudes towards regulation are also shifting after decades of silence and caution regarding menopausal hormone therapy (MHT). However, it is crucial not to provide greater reassurance when prescribing MHT than what the available evidence supports. In 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) convened an expert panel and subsequently decided to remove the long-standing "black box" warning from hormone therapy products. This decision was presented as a correction of warnings that had overstated the risks of these products for many women. Nevertheless, removing a warning does not resolve the underlying uncertainties regarding these risks. Moreover, these uncertainties are not limited to hormone therapy but extend beyond it.
