A new study suggests that children taking GLP-1 medications may face a risk of nutritional deficiencies. These drugs, such as Victoza, Saxenda, Trulicity, and Ozempic, are prescribed for weight loss, prediabetes, or type 2 diabetes. The findings indicated that nearly 1 in 6 young patients developed a diagnosed deficiency within one year of starting treatment. Specifically, vitamin D deficiency affected approximately 12% of these children. This risk of nutritional deficiencies might often be overlooked. The study highlights the importance of monitoring the nutritional status in children treated with these medications.
