Preoperative measurement of femoral head using 3D-CT spherical fitting technique for the guidance of femoroplasty in arthroscopic treatment of cam-type femoroacetabular impingement: a cohort validation

The study examined the use of 3D-CT spherical fitting for preoperative planning of surgical removal of cam deformity in arthroscopic treatment of cam-type femoroacetabular impingement. Twenty-nine patients who underwent surgery between August 2024 and February 2025 were included. After surgery, the average alpha angle decreased from 75.3 ± 6.3 degrees to 44.2 ± 4.1 degrees. The femoral head-neck offset ratio improved from 0.16 ± 0.06 to 0.20 ± 0.04. The mHHS score increased from preoperative 52.5 ± 11.7 to 73.2 ± 14.5 at 3 months and 77.9 ± 15.8 at 6 months after surgery. Pain measured by VAS decreased from 3.4 ± 0.9 to 2.4 ± 0.6 at 3 months and 2.3 ± 0.8 at 6 months. The method combining 3D-CT spherical fitting with arthroscopic approach provided promising clinical and imaging outcomes.
