Associations of recorded in-hospital linezolid and fluoroquinolone exposure with mortality and documented drug-induced liver injury in non-HIV tuberculous meningitis: a propensity score-weighted real-world cohort study

The study examined the effects of linezolid and fluoroquinolones in patients with tuberculosis meningitis without HIV hospitalized between October 2013 and January 2024. A total of 1,574 patients were included, of whom 187 died during hospitalization and 116 had documented drug-induced liver injury. Linezolid was administered to 996 patients, fluoroquinolones to 859 patients, and both drugs together to 556 patients. Using statistical methods including propensity score weighting, none of these three drug exposures was significantly associated with increased in-hospital mortality or documented liver injury. Results remained consistent in additional analyses and sensitivity tests. The authors concluded that recorded in-hospital exposure to linezolid, fluoroquinolones, and their combination was not significantly associated with mortality or liver injury during hospitalization.
