Percutaneous endovascular biopsy for the diagnosis of intravascular masses: a single-center retrospective study

This retrospective study evaluated percutaneous endovascular biopsy (PEB) as a method for diagnosing intravascular masses. It involved 30 patients (18 men and 12 women with a mean age of 55 years) between January 2016 and December 2023. Tissue samples were obtained using biopsy forceps under digital subtraction angiography guidance. Technical success of the procedure was 100% in all patients, and no complications were observed. Histopathological analysis provided a definitive diagnosis in 100% of cases. Malignant lesions were identified in 11 patients (36.7%), with hepatocellular carcinoma with vascular invasion being the most common. Benign lesions accounted for 19 cases (63.3%) and primarily consisted of fibrous tissue and thrombi. In conclusion, PEB demonstrated high technical success and diagnostic yield without complications in this patient cohort.
