Fireworks should be banned

In the summer of 2026, extensive wildfires affected France, linked to heatwaves. In response to this situation, some French local authorities decided to cancel traditional fireworks displays planned for Bastille Day celebrations to prevent further fires. The article argues that further steps should be taken, considering a permanent ban on fireworks. It states that in the context of the climate crisis and the increase in extreme weather events, it is not justifiable to continue emitting carbon dioxide through recreational activities such as fireworks. Fireworks contribute to the problem, are noisy, and release fine particulate matter into the atmosphere. They can also release microplastics into ecosystems, posing a public health and planetary health issue. Given the climate crisis, proactive measures are necessary.
