Falls are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults living in the community, with 30 to 40 percent of people over 65 years falling every year. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 37 million falls requiring medical attention occur worldwide annually, with the highest mortality rates among people over 60 years old. Up to 10 percent of falls result in fractures, dislocations, head injuries, and other blunt trauma. Falls are often multifactorial and associated with chronic diseases, physiological changes related to aging, environmental factors, and cardiovascular disorders including arrhythmias and blood pressure regulation problems. World guidelines for fall prevention recommend multidomain interventions tailored to individual risk factors, including exercise programs, medication reviews, and home environment modifications. This Cochrane review protocol addresses the assessment of efficacy and safety of electrophysiology procedures, particularly pacemaker implantation, in preventing falls among older people living in the community.
