HSIG–ESICM Webinar Series – Session 1

The Health Security Interest Group and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine are hosting the first session of a webinar series focused on intensive care unit preparedness for future crises. The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 30, at 16:00 CEST. The main topics of the seminar are surge capacity planning in intensive care and the cross-border deployment of medical personnel. Expert Maurizio Cecconi from Milan will address evidence and gaps in ICU surge capacity based on lessons from COVID-19 and initiatives such as the ICU Live Map. James Lee from the University of Alberta will focus on the practical realities of deploying teams across borders, regulatory barriers, and temporary credential recognition. The session will also examine proposed updates to the Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The discussion will be moderated by Jan De Waele from Belgium and Marlies Ostermann from the United Kingdom.
