Videolaryngoscopy and first-attempt tracheal intubation success in neonates and infants: a retrospective cohort study using the Japan Pediatric Difficult Airway in Anesthesia (J-PEDIA) registry

The study examined the effectiveness of videolaryngoscopy for tracheal intubation in neonates and infants. First-attempt intubation success is critically important in this patient population. Although videolaryngoscopy is recommended for neonatal and infant intubation, uncertainty remained regarding its real-world effectiveness. The research team used data from a multicentre airway registry to evaluate the association between videolaryngoscopy use during the first intubation attempt and first-attempt intubation success. The aim was to provide evidence on the effectiveness of this technique in real clinical conditions.
