Trust at centre of police investigation is sorry for “accidental loss” of maternity data

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) has apologised for the “accidental loss” of maternity data. The incident concerns records of women and babies who received maternity care between September 2011 and November 2022. The loss occurred due to “human error” on August 18, 2026, during a routine technical process, when the maternity records database was unintentionally overwritten. While most of the data has been recovered, the trust was unable to restore details of who accessed medical records between September 2011 and November 2022. The trust claims that no patient record was inappropriately accessed or used as a result of the incident. Nottinghamshire Police, which is already investigating deaths and injuries of mothers and babies at Nottingham City Hospital and Nottingham Queen’s Medical Centre, has been notified of the incident.
