A systematic review from February 2025 examined the impact of patient health passports on health outcomes in adults with diabetes. The analysis included 11 studies with a total of 14,350 participants, including seven randomized controlled trials. Meta-analysis of five studies demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in HbA1c and total cholesterol favoring the intervention group; however, the certainty of evidence was low or very low. Narrative analysis revealed little to no improvement in body mass index, blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol levels. Patients reported some benefits in usability, perceived value, and enhanced collaboration. The authors concluded that health passports may improve patient care but emphasized the need for high-quality studies with larger sample sizes.
