The study examined the association between time in range of glucose (70-180 mg/dL) measured by continuous glucose monitoring and diabetic kidney disease in adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. The analysis included 11 studies with a total of 7,182 participants (seven studies with type 2 diabetes, four with type 1). Results showed that each 10% increase in time in range was associated with an 11 percent reduction in the odds of diabetic kidney disease (OR 0.89). This relationship remained significant even after adjustment for average glucose (HbA1c), suggesting that the effect is not solely due to average glucose levels. However, the authors emphasize that further prospective studies with standardized protocols and clearly defined outcomes are needed to confirm causality.
