A French cohort study examined the effectiveness of the monoclonal antibody nirsevimab against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants. The study followed children born before the RSV vaccination campaign for pregnant women began in September 2024. Results showed that nirsevimab significantly reduced hospitalizations due to RSV lower respiratory tract infections. In 2023, 0.8% of vaccinated infants were hospitalized compared to 2.4% of unvaccinated infants. In 2024, these figures decreased to 0.5% of vaccinated versus 1.9% of unvaccinated infants. The effectiveness of nirsevimab was estimated at 66% in 2023 and 72% in 2024.
