Awareness and attitudes regarding artificial intelligence in medical imaging: student perspectives from five Ghanaian universities

The study examined awareness, familiarity, and attitudes toward artificial intelligence among diagnostic medical imaging students in Ghana. The research included 296 students from five Ghanaian universities between June and August 2024 using a 21-item questionnaire. Results showed that 95.3% of respondents were aware of AI, 85.8% had previously used an AI product, and 85.8% considered AI an emerging trend in medical imaging. The majority of students (76%) agreed that AI has a positive impact on medical imaging and 76% supported the inclusion of AI in core medical imaging courses. Analysis revealed that male students and those with a positive perception of AI's impact on medical imaging were more likely to support AI curriculum integration. The study demonstrates high student awareness of AI and positive attitudes toward its applications in medical imaging.
