Basecamp Research secures $140m for AI-driven therapies

UK-based Basecamp Research has secured $140 million in a Series C funding round. The financing is intended for the development of a new generation of its EDEN biological foundation models and to advance AI-designed therapies towards clinical development. The round was led by S32, with other investors including Nvidia and The Rockefeller Foundation. Basecamp's initial focus is on in vivo cell therapy, which involves reprogramming a patient's cells directly within the body. Basecamp's technology combines AI models trained on biological data with methods for writing DNA sequences into cells. Current cell therapies are expensive, reaching hundreds of thousands of dollars per patient, and the company aims to overcome these limitations. The EDEN model is trained on the Trillion Gene Atlas dataset, which was developed in collaboration with over 30 countries. The new funding will also support the expansion of pharmaceutical partnerships.
