Slovak hygienists seized 28 packages of Natura lightly sparkling mineral water from the same batch in which a corrosive substance was found. Laboratory analysis of one bottle showed a high pH of 14, indicating the presence of lye. According to the rapid alert system, a seven-year-old child drank the contaminated mineral water and subsequently experienced health problems. Hygienists have not yet detected the corrosive substance in other collected samples, and analyses are still ongoing. In connection with the case, they inspected over 700 public catering establishments, such as restaurants and school canteens. The Slovak police are investigating the case and have initiated criminal proceedings for suspected endangerment of health with contaminated food. The Czech inspection authority SZPI stated that the bottled batch was produced shortly after sanitation, which does not suggest contamination during production. The potentially contaminated batch is not present in the Czech Republic.
