Healthcare expenditures in the Czech Republic in 2024 increased year-on-year by 8.5% to 697 billion crowns, representing approximately 64,000 crowns per capita. For the first time in history, health insurance companies spent over 500 billion crowns on healthcare. Health insurance companies covered 514.2 billion crowns, accounting for almost 74% of all healthcare expenditures, while households paid 94.5 billion crowns. Oncological care was the most expensive area with expenditures of 55.8 billion crowns, surpassing cardiovascular disease treatment for the first time. Households spent on average 1,973 crowns on over-the-counter medicines and 1,492 crowns on prescription drug co-payments per capita. Since 2015, annual healthcare expenditures have more than doubled.
